The roots of Way to Life Foods run deep. As a teenager, Daulet worked at a natural foods bakery in Oakland where she discovered her passion for baking healthy, delicious food. Some years later, with four young children to take care of, she turned that passion into a business, making and selling truly nutritious granola that tasted amazing. And as soon as her kids were old enough to reach the stove top, they joined her in the kitchen, and their own love of baking began.
This home enterprise evolved into Way to Life Foods in 2010, and since then, some of Daulet’s children have become involved full-time. Over the last several years, her son Fard’s taken Way to Life Foods into retail stores and grown its presence at farmers’ markets across California -from one to over 30, including the Trojan farmers’ market at USC. Fard’s unique connection with the USC students has taken him across the quad into the lecture hall, where he was invited to give a talk on his experience of growing a business where quality and customer feedback are key.
Daulet’s son Taji has branched off in a slightly different way. From sourcing his ingredients from the same local suppliers to baking using the exact same recipes his mom taught him, Taji now has his own franchise business under the Way to Life umbrella, called “Your Way to Life.” He can be found in an ever-growing number of farmers’ markets across Northern California, and credits his success to learning everything from his mom. Demand has built up so much that he is now creating jobs in his own right; one of his old friends from high school is now his top seller!
As to the future, Daulet and her family continue to innovate in the kitchen to bring the most nutritious, delicious and affordable vegan food to as many people as possible. Look out for Daulet’s latest creation — a healthy, hearty, can’t-believe-it-tastes-so-good veggie burger.
This is a business — and a family —that goes beyond granola. It’s not just a way of life; it’s a Way To Life.
